The State of The Manuscript

Dear Readers,

For the past few months, when I’ve been asked about when to expect the release of For The One, book 5 of the Gaming the System series (William and Jenna’s story), I’ve answered with “expect it at the end of the year,” which I was honestly hoping I would be able to do.

But now, here we are at the beginning of the last month of the year and I still don’t have a release date. I’m sure you’ve been wondering why and I don’t want to leave you in the dark.

Last year, when readers were awaiting another book, I chose to discuss the arduous process to bring a book from a glimmer of an idea into a fully realized love story with subplots and well-rounded characters. Ideally, this takes anywhere from 3 to 6 months. But as the series has progressed, I’m finding that it’s taking longer. And as I’m still pretty new at this, I’m not 100% sure why.

Part of the reason is that each new book comes with brand new challenges in the form of story, characterization and background. Along with that comes the pressure of not wanting to disappoint readers by forcing a problematic plot device or skipping scenes in order to get the book out faster. For The Win took me 8 months to complete, but it’s also by far (as in a full 20% longer than At Any Price) the longest book I’ve ever written. Marketing experts suggested I divide that book into 2 parts in order to get it out faster, but I refused because I felt that would be letting readers down. And the last thing I want to do is let you all down!

My books are long and they take a while to produce and I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way. So for you, my dear readers, I’m truly sorry about the extended wait but please know that this will be a book that I’ve worked very hard on and that you will hopefully cherish once it is ready to be sent out into the world.

Expect For The One in early 2016 (with an exact date to be announced the minute that I possibly can), and then, afterwards, Worth Any Cost, which will be book 4 of Adam and Mia’s story.

As a little token of reader appreciation, I’ll be revealing the covers of both of these books on December 16, my wedding anniversary. I’ll also be sending out a short Mia and Adam scene of their first Christmas together in the newsletter sometime before the 25th, so make sure you’ve signed up!

With hugs and gratitude for all of you,

Brenna
